The council will oversee organically generated sustainability initiatives aimed at shaping the continent’s environmental and developmental future.
The Association of African Sustainability Practitioners (AASuP) has sworn in a 12-member National Executive Council, tasked with leading efforts to advance sustainability in Ghana and across Africa.
The council will oversee organically generated sustainability initiatives aimed at shaping the continent’s environmental and developmental future.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister for Climate Change and Sustainability at the inauguration ceremony on 14 March, 2025, at the Accra Technical University, Cedric Dzelu emphasised the importance of placing climate action at the forefront of AASuP’s agenda.
“Advancing climate action in Ghana should be at the forefront of this association,” he stated, adding that climate change impacts every sector and must be considered in all professional disciplines.
He further stressed the role of green innovation as a catalyst for sustainable development and encouraged technical universities to serve as hubs for innovation.
“This association must play a vital role in advancing sustainability in Ghana. When there are major issues and debates on these topics, I want to hear your name at the forefront,” he charged.
Dzelu emphasised that sustainability is a long road that requires dedication. “The journey towards a sustainable future requires commitment, collaboration, and innovation. All of you who have pledged to this cause must exemplify sustainability,” he said, assuring members that his doors remain open for discussions and partnerships.
President of the Council, Humphrey Tetteh, urged members to be proactive in executing their roles, emphasising the need for institutions to be enrolled in sustainability programs.
“We have a major role to impact this country, and not just Ghana—Africa as a whole. I hope that in the next two years, we will be counted among those who set the pace for change,” he stated.
